What Is Bing's New AI-Driven Search Engine?
And What Does It Mean For Your Business's SEO Marketing Strategy
Did you know that Google holds 88.99 percent of the search engine market share, with Bing trailing behind in second place at 6.33 percent?
It’s clear that Google is the preferred search engine of web users, but that could be about to change with the introduction of Bing’s new AI-driven search capabilities.
Keep reading to learn more about how Bing’s AI search works, how it could rival Google, and how it will affect your business’s marketing efforts.
Bing Search Integrated with ChatGPT-Powered AI
Bing’s new AI-integrated search engine allows users to ask Bing questions and converse with the search engine in a similar way to ChatGPT. In fact, a ChatGPT-powered chatbot box is embedded in search results when querying.
In the above image, the search query is “I need to throw a dinner party for 6 people who are vegetarian. Can you suggest a 3-course menu with a chocolate dessert?” This is an example search given by Microsoft.
As you can see, users are shown the usual search results, along with an AI chatbot box on the right side of the screen. This chatbot gives users an instant answer to their query without them having to open any webpages. However, it does reference it’s responses with anchored source links.
Users can also click the ‘Let’s chat’ button and talk with Bing to generate more personalized answers. However, this only works with the Microsoft Edge browser.
How Does Bing AI-Search Work?
According to Microsoft, Bing’s AI-search capabilities are made up of four components:
Microsoft Prometheus: Data connection model that processes user queries into Bing’s Orchestrator AI framework which unifies search queries with ranking data and ChatGPT AI technology.
OpenAI ChatGPT Technology: ChatGPT is a Natural Language Processing model that is capable of returning human-like responses to user queries based on information retrieved from the internet.
Algorithmic AI: The Bing search engine algorithm can now connect users with more relevant results through artificial intelligence.
New User Experience: All of the above technology, along with a new user-friendly interface, leads to a unique user experience.
Of course, this is a watered-down explanation of the technology behind Bing’s AI-search capabilities. This is because properly understanding Bing’s AI search requires a wider knowledge of artificial intelligence and ChatGPT technology.

Will Bing’s AI-Search Rival Google?
Bing’s AI search is impressive, but Google isn't taking it lying down. In fact, Google is already in the process of developing its own AI-driven chatbot called Bard, which will likely rival even ChatGPT in terms of functionality.
Additionally, Google has also started implementing artificial intelligence into its search engine, with features such as Google Lens and multi-search, which allows users to search with text and images simultaneously.
However, after Microsoft announced that they’d be integrating Bing with ChatGPT, their stock price rose by 3.2 percent to $265.10 a share. This rise indicates an increasing confidence in Microsoft’s ability to convert users from Google to Bing.
What Does This Mean For Your Business’s SEO Marketing Plan?
Generally, SEO efforts are focused on optimizing websites for Google search results, but with Bing in a position to rival the search giant, it’s time to start optimizing for both engines.
According to SEO expert Mark Traphegen from SEOClarity, it’s unlikely that SEO will no longer be an effective tool for organic digital marketing. Still, we will need to change our approach.
For example, AI-generated answers are not contingent on search rankings. So, although Bing’s chatbot references websites, your site’s position in search results will have no bearing over whether Bing’s chatbot gives you a backlink. Instead, content quality and relevance will take precedence.
The more attractive your website’s content appears to Bing, the more likely it is to be referenced by the chatbot.
